Last night we had our final Roman feast and we felt like locals. A couple walked by and exclaimed surprise that buses squeezed through alley sized streets, you can literally reach out and touch them as you dine outside. We were used to this by now ! Early this morning we walked through a ghost town, with our luggage in tow, to get a cab to the train station. Romans sleep in... thats the Italian lifestyle! The train swept us through the Italian countryside on a nearly 4 hour journey to Venice. There was a school trip of young kids on our train, they were 5 years old and so adorable, in true Italian form they were already talking with their hands! The train was easy to figure out and we made it to Venice with no problem.
First thing to do was take the vaporetto (water bus) to meet up with Kimberly, whom we are renting the apartment from. We got on and took a ride that gave us our first taste of the city. The picturesque sites before us wowed us and immediately put us at ease. There are no cars in Venice, canals and your own feet are how you get around. Beautiful bridges connect the small walkway-sized streets and gondolas push tourists through the water. We met Kimberly, who was extremely nice and accommodating, and walked to the apartment where we are staying. Its beautiful with all of the luxuries of home! With fresh flowers on the table, and Prosecco in the fridge, we happily settled in. We relaxed and unpacked, watching the gondolas go by from our kitchen window. Venice has us all enchanted! Benvenuti Venezia!
